Hey do you remember any of the stories you were told when you were little? This first Dr Suess book, or the first time you heard the words “Rumbly in my tumbly”?
I remember the first time I told the story of Nod to Camille. She was so little. I was laying on a bright red Ottoman that I kept in her Nursery, and she was bundled up into a collection of princess blankets on a pink and beige half bed. She loved hearing stories every night, I massaged her tummy if it was too full or upset. This night she was asking me questions about things, and I did not want to just give her blanket adult answers. So I gave her Nod.
Sometimes when I told i there was a huge friendly crocodile that protects the fairies wo live near a river, some times there were fields of stars in the night sky that move like the waves in the sea. Over time Kira added to it and the story evolved until it became the story that I want to tell most of all. The story evolving behind my eyes, within my mind and heart.
I created it with a few things in mind besides my love for the person who received it first. I created to be a way for her to always remember what it was like to hear a bed time story. We forget things like that you know? We forget the moments where were sat in the trees and whistled at night with faeries, and we remember the moments when we realized we couldn’t fly.
So many of us are in a rush to forget about things like the Velveteen Rabbit in a quest to grow up get a car and a mortgage. If the only gift I ever gave to my children is that they remember just once more what it was like to see the stars on their bedroom ceilings, and feel he spray of the ocean while they board the Jolly Rodger well then I would say that gift is not wasted.
What are some of the ways you have tried to slow the world down for your kids? I can only hope that the world isn’t rushing in too quickly on any of us.

Kick Starter recommendations:
Every week I watch the indy books rolling through Kickstarter. Now a daysI look for things with story telling that give me Nod vibes, the things that sing stories that I would be proud reading with my children. Something on Kickstarter that caught my attention. It has this odd Redwall style feel to it almost like Mousegaurd but on different wavelength. Ill be backing it and I suggest you take a look.
A single frog is sent out to carry a message. Seeking out a Warlok and finding a crazy world with dangers and new friends. It has an OZ like vibe mixed with Jim Henson, ing for me, so If you dig the work I am doing. Please check it out and click on the image below or right HERE.
